A week after a massive wall was built on the border with Syria, a group of Israeli activists is calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop construction of the wall.

Israel has been building a wall along the border, despite the fact that the UN Security Council has repeatedly passed resolutions in favour of such a barrier.

The group of activists, which is calling for a three-month moratorium on construction on the wall, is urging Netanyahu to put in place a security fence, which it says will stop Palestinian terrorists from crossing into Israel.

“The international community should demand the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all Palestinian fighters from the Gaza Strip and the withdrawal of Hamas fighters from Gaza,” the group said in a statement.

“Israel must take the necessary measures to prevent the entry of any militants into Israel from Gaza.”

The Israeli government has previously insisted that it will not allow any Palestinian fighters to enter the country from the Strip, and a spokesperson for the interior ministry told Al Jazeera that the wall was not part of the plan.

It has not yet been determined whether the wall will be completed.
